At Williams, we take pride in celebrating the dedication and hard work of our employees. This month, we are thrilled to honor Kathy Smith, who has just reached an incredible milestone—her 20-year anniversary with the company!

Kathy’s journey at Williams began when we were still located on Ann Street in Grand Rapids. She was hired as a receptionist, working out of what she humorously recalls as a broom closet. With a background in sales, she was looking for a change, but she never imagined that she would find her true calling in accounting.

“Math was my worst subject in school, but accounting I picked up instantly,” Kathy shares. Her keen attention to detail quickly set her apart, making her an invaluable asset in forensic accounting. Now, as the Accounts Payable Manager, Kathy plays a crucial role in managing the company’s finances.

“I take pride in my work, and I am honored to be trusted with such an important role. I make it my mission to protect Williams’ finances like they were my own.”

Kathy’s day-to-day responsibilities include managing accounts payable for all of our outer offices, ensuring that invoices are processed accurately and on time. January is particularly demanding, with year-end reporting and tax preparation, but she tackles the challenge head-on every year.

Beyond her financial expertise, Kathy has also made a significant impact on our community involvement. She initiated Williams’ participation in the Adopt-A-Road program, recruiting a few lucky colleagues to help clean up the roads three times a year. “My safety speeches are the best part of it,” she jokes.

Outside of work, Kathy is devoted to her family. She and her husband have been together for over 20 years and are incredibly proud of their two children. Their daughter, Maggie, 13, plays basketball, and they love traveling to her games. Their son, Noah, 10, is a talented musician who plays both drums and guitar. As a family, they enjoy cooking, hiking, spending time at the beach, and taking trips to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

“I’m very proud to have been with the company for so long and look forward to many more years to come.”

Kathy, we are beyond grateful for your hard work, dedication, and the positive energy you bring to Williams every day. Congratulations on 20 years, and here’s to many more!
