Employee Spotlight: Celebrating 10 Years with Justin Carter

Drafting – Forming and Shoring Specialist | Portland, OR

At Williams, our people are the cornerstone of our success, and Justin Carter exemplifies dedication, growth, and a passion for helping customers bring their projects to life.

Career Journey

Justin began his professional journey in retail and retail management while pursuing higher education. He earned his BS in Industrial Design with a minor in Sustainability from The Art Institute of Portland, followed by an AS in Drafting and Design from ITT Technical Institute in Portland. While at ITT, Justin was recognized on the Dean’s List and connected with Williams through a school-led job opportunity.

“When I started, I knew very little about construction and even less about concrete,” Justin recalls. “But thanks to the mentorship from Mike Bowles Sr., Tony Kasparek, Michael Bowles Jr., and others, I was given every tool I needed to learn and succeed.”

Day-to-day Responsibilities

Justin’s role focuses on drafting plans that help our customers visualize and construct forming and shoring systems. He also supports on-site assembly, calculating pour rates and pour pressure, and has grown into additional responsibilities, including project estimation and inventory control of the rental fleet. Over the years, Justin has cultivated strong relationships with the sales team and directly with many of Williams’ customers, becoming a go-to resource for both technical guidance and project support.

Key Achievements

Since joining Williams in 2015, Justin has contributed to a remarkable growth in projects, from drafting 20-50 projects annually in the early years to nearly 100 projects per year today. He has watched the division expand and evolve and has played a pivotal role in its development. “It’s been awesome to see the team grow year after year and develop into what it is today,” he says.

Personal Insights

Justin and his fiancée Laura welcomed their daughter, Georgia, in March and recently bought a new home. He took three months of paternity leave to spend quality time with Georgia, enjoying every moment of her early milestones. The family loves camping in their travel trailer, and Georgia has already been on six trips at just six months old. When not with family, Justin can often be found cooking, especially for large gatherings.

Mark Twain’s words resonate with Justin:
“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born… and the day you find out why.”

Fun Facts

  • Justin has been listening to about 50 audiobooks per year since 2012.
  • His favorite destination is Maui.
  • He and Laura are passionate Philadelphia Eagles fans and usually travel to see games, though they might take a break this season with their new baby.

Justin Carter’s story is a testament to growth, dedication, and balancing career success with personal passions. We’re proud to have him on the Williams team!
