The Fox River Dock Company is a coal distributor. The majority of their coal arrives for distribution by barge. In the past, barges had to be unloaded from deep water via a conveyor system or from a slop along an inlet because there was no existing dock space along the river bank.
Hitch, Inc. was hired to design a pier along the river expanding the existing facility and providing the needed dock space. The pier was designed as a double wall with high support to resist overturning.
Ed Gillen Company was awarded the contract and chose Williams 1-3/4" Diameter Epoxy Coated All-Thread Tie Rods. After placing the rods, the structure was backfilled with soil and gravel.
