Interstate 95 cantilever pier caps, experienced cracking into the base of the overhang increasing traffic and age of the I-95 expressway has required numerous pier post tensioning and up grading two bars on either side of the pier run the width of the bridge to a fabricated end anchorage where the 4 bars terminate. The tensioning concept is to help support the cantilevered section of the roadway-CCS special structures performed the suspension of the tensioning sequences. The loading was performed in 4 steps to meet the lock off load. This procedure was implemented so the pier was not overstressed and so the fabricated end anchorage would not slip or shift since bars were straoled on each side of the pier. The bars were encased in grout in a 2", corrugated tube and sch40 PVC sleeve for corrosion protection and placed in harnesses along the width of the bridge.
