The FAA is undergoing an extensive control tower construction program. The Allentown Bethlehem Pennsylvania Airport is one of eight major tower projects. The long term goal for the FAA is to replace 10 towers a year. Some of the towers have had funding problems but the growing economy of Northeastern Pennsylvania has made the project a reality. Some of the upcoming Towers will be of the segmental precast post-tension design as this one is. CCI Inc., the general contractor, selected Canmar Precast of Canada to manufacture the segments. 1-3/8" 150KSI bars were used to post-tension the segments. Along with Williams post-tension bars, the contractor also used Williams grouting and tensioning equipment. The first section of the bars were cast in place as part of the foundation and then tensioned with the first precast segments. 10 ft. sections were intermittently tensioned to finished height of 112 ft. Mull Iron works were the segment erectors. Williams was able to provide drawings, jacking sequences and grouting procedures. |
