A new Aeration Tank was built for the city of Appleton, WI as part of an overall renovation of the waste water treatment plant. Situated in a area of high bedrock adjacent to the Fox River, rock anchors were necessitated to resist potential uplift force exerted against the base of the tank. Years earlier, personnel installing rock anchors in the same area experienced difficulty encapsulating the full length of the tendons in cement grout due to the highly fractured nature of the rock. With this in mind, Brown & Caldwell selected Williams two-component Poly Grout for quick setup to ensure complete coverage. The contractor, Carl Bolander & Sons, chose Williams Hollow-Core Rock Anchors over bonded anchoring systems because the Williams Spin-Lock required fewer anchors. Williams Hollow Core Spin-Lock also reduced embedment depth compared to bonded tendons, providing a substantial savings in grouting costs.
