Chicago, IL - Cellular Tower Extensions

Two Ameritech cellular towers in the Chicago, Illinois area were extended approximately 30 ft. in height for improved service. As a result of the additional height, consideration had to be given to the existing foundation anchor bolts' resistance to the greater live load moment. The engineer, Gilfillan Witt & Callahan, chose to install additional anchor bolts into the existing foundation to resist the increased design loads. The system selected was Williams' 1-7/8" dia. 150 KSI ultimate strength Spin-Lock mechanical anchor. The Spin-Lock design allows for the anchors to be installed, tested, and grouted all in the same day.
